JP Duo plays a wide-ranging repertoire of covers and originals. On any given night you’re likely to hear Muddy Waters, Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello, Lou Reed, Neil Young, Johnny Cash, Taj Mahal, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, as well as many originals.
Jay Michael Harden plays flat-pick and fingerstyle acoustic guitar while Paul Dirks plays bass and acoustic guitar. Both sing lead and harmony vocals. They’ve been playing together in Sarasota since 2019.
Harden was born in Minnesota, growing up next to Highway 61 near Minneapolis. He has lived and played in many places, including Iowa City, where he lived in the fabled Kurt Vonnegut House. Then living in Oregon, Barcelona, Taipei and Costa Rica, he always played in bands and continued to write prolifically. Since moving to Sarasota in 2014, he has released five albums and started working with Dirks in 2020, recording and playing live in Jay and the O.G.s
Dirks grew up in Chicago and has been playing in bands since he was a teenager. After living and performing for many years in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, Dirks came to Sarasota in 2017 and immediately joined a band. A talented multi-instrumentalist, he brings his versatility and wide-ranging knowledge of songs to the JP Duo.
